COMEX2022 to highlight the Digital Transformation of Omani Government

Digital transformation can be defined as the employment of information and communication technologies (ICTs) powered by telecom innovations in the private companies and government authorities and entities to develop online services and performance to increase productivity and efficiency. In Oman, all government entities value the ongoing development of their administrative role, services provided, and delivery of these services to the beneficiaries, businesses and individuals. Therefore, digital transformation of Omani governments came as a comprehensive program that influences the internal workflow of services to a specific audience which are fellow government organizations, companies and individuals in a more efficient and faster manner.

The directions of Oman Vision 2040 showed the need for a flexible future making government apparatus based on principles of governance to reach advanced technological and innovation levels in the e-government approach. Subsequently, the digital transformation program has been developed as one of the possible, and fastest implementation programs to achieve the desired priorities. The program includes a large number of governmental institutions, representing all of the supporting economy, commerce and industrial sectors for empowering the government sector in its competencies.

As a step towards accomplishing Oman Vision 2040, and as one of the initiatives of the National Digital Economy Program, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), has unveiled the executive strategy of government digital transformation for the period 2021-2025. It will invest 170 Million OMR over a five-year program in improving digital infrastructure, re-engineering government services, empowering national competencies, and increasing people’s trust in the field of digital transformation.
