Smart Data Meets Development Requirements
The National Center for Statistics and Information is concerned with meeting the country's needs for official statistics and reliable information and using them in setting policies and programs at the national, regional, and international levels, in light of the economic and social rapid changes. It also aims to meet the requirements of all parties in obtaining information in various development fields.
The importance of the center’s participation in the 31st edition of Comex stems from the center’s vision to enhance knowledge in the Sultanate of Oman. The center seeks by all means to introduce the data and services it provides to all institutions in the government and private sectors and to all segments of society, as well as to introduce its projects and studies and their importance in Oman's renewable renaissance. For example, the center will showcase in COMEX many projects, including: the big data, the unified address project, and the paradigm shift in the electronic census 2020. It will also address the methods used in improving statistical work, and will show how the Sultanate of Oman has become an international center of expertise in the transition from a field census to a census based on electronic linkage between various institutes in a very short period. This is in addition to addressing the methods used in improving statistical work.
His Excellency Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Barwani, CEO of the Center, said: Since its establishment in 2012, and in cooperation with various relevant authorities, the center has been able to create an official statistics system that is reliable in decision-making, given its ability to keep pace with various developments at the local level. In addition, it employs modern technology in all statistical operations to support Oman’s 2040 vision.
His Excellency added that the processes of collecting and producing statistical data and indicators in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed a qualitative leap and a remarkable turning point. The electronic linkage between various government agencies contributed to the speed and availability of data. In addition, the use of mobile phones, which is one of the sources of big data in the production of official statistical indicators in the areas of tourism, population, and transport, has also contributed to rationalizing value-added information for users.
The CEO of the center concludes by saying, "We invite everyone to visit the center’s corner at COMEX2022 to see the services and products that we offer to various segments of society and to benefit from the information that contributes to various aspects of daily life."
